In Case Your Camper Fell Asleep on the Car Ride Home: Session 2

The campers drive down Russell Road each Sunday, preparing themselves for their week at Pendalouan.  When Friday finally comes, they leave us feeling inspired, and we leave them feeling empowered.
We sure do make a great team!

Here are the highlights of Session 2:

-Frogs and toads galore!  It was the perfect week for a nature hike around Big Blue.
-The ‘Under the Sea’ theme was a hoot!  There was everything from a water carnival to Ursula and her evil eels.
-There were 15 Thunderbirds (those who’ve come to camp for 5 summers), and 1 double Thunderbird!
-The CIT’s said their goodbyes after two weeks of tent living.
-Each cabin created a unique bond, making friendships that they can carry with them for years to come.
-It was perfect paddle boarding conditions!
-Campers browsed the Book Mobile, leisurely reading on the steps of Wildwood Chapel.  One camper even received the ‘Ultimate Reader’ award during dinner on Thursday.
-The four core values (respect, responsibility, honesty and caring) were practiced and put into action, leaving camp better than it was before.

Summer camp will resume on July 5th for Session 3, Arabian Nights!
Thank you all for a fantastic and smiley Session 2, see you all next week!
Hail Pendalouan!

In Case Your Camper Fell Asleep on the Car Ride Home: Session 1

The first session of the summer has come to a close, but the memories made this past week will live on forever!

Here are some highlights from Session 1:
-The weather brought a new element of fun to camp; rain parties, mud hikes and dancing in the rain!
-There were 17 campers in the polar bear hall of fame this week!
-Campers worked together to stop the evil villains from taking over Pendalouan.
-New friendships were made.
-Music, self defense and drama gave AMAZING performances at the end of the week!
-Many complaints of cheeks hurting from so much smiling.
-Campers participated in both traditional and unique activities such as:  Lake swim, fairy hunt, archery, survival, self defense, obstacle course, drama and mad science.
-The CIT’s successfully navigated the white river trip.
-Closing campfire was a night to remember.
Plus so much more!  Talk with your camper about their week at Pendalouan and hear the stories that only they can tell.

There’s still opportunities to experience everything Pendalouan has to offer, join us for Family camp, Mom & Kids camp, Father Son camp or...  Another session of summer camp!!  Click here for dates and more information.

See you next week for Session 2:  Under the Sea!

Recap: Staff Training

Last Sunday, around 40 strangers arrived on the shores of Big Blue Lake.  Feeling both excited and a little nervous, they took the plunge into Pendalouan.  Together, they discovered the magic of camp and the freedom of being yourself.  By Friday, that same group of strangers completed Staff Training, each with 40 new friends.

Here are a few of our favorite moments from Staff Training 2015:

There's officially over 800 kids registered for summer 2015!
We've never experienced a group of counselors quite like this one, so get ready to try new things, make new friends, and experience Pendalouan.  See you Sunday for session 1!

Last But Certainly Not Least...

This is it, the last of the 2015 staff bios... CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
Staff Orientation is in full swing, and very soon there will be hundreds of campers arriving for an awesome week.  My oh my what a fantastic group of counselors, we can't wait for you to meet them!

Here they are, the last handful of summer 2015 staff:
Meet Antwan, Molly, Izzi and Mike!

Ayo!! My name is Antwan and I'm ready to start my summer at the gorgeous Big Blue Lake! This will be my 11th year at camp and I'm most excited for seeing campers bond and make new friends. Lots or memories will be made! On my spare time, hanging out with friends, listening to music and the beach! This fall I will be going into my 1st college year. My intentions are to become a Athletic Trainer! I love making friends and am so excited to meet all of you!

My name is Molly and I go to Grand Valley State University where I will be a senior in the fall. This will be my first year at Camp Pendalouan and I like that we will get to spend so much time outside. I am most excited about all of the people I will meet and the memories I will make.

Mi llamo IZZI! Although I hail from the great city of Chicago, Illinois; I spent this past year studying down south in good ole Atlanta, Georgia (where I learned me some Spanglish!!).  I can't wait to get out of the humidity and back to my home on big blue lake for my eighth!! summer. I'm so excited to meet all the new staff members and see the smiling faces of all my campers.  Get ready for gaga, foil dinners, root beer floats, water-mat fun, and so much more!!  At camp, everyone is welcomed. Can't wait to see you there!!

Hello everyone! My name is Mike and this will be my first summer working as a counselor  for Camp Pendalouan. I am currently enrolled in GVSU studying Biomedical Science with an emphasis in nutrition. I'm a U.P. native, am a big fan of animals, and love outdoor activities. I am a very outgoing person and can't wait to meet everyone attending camp this summer.

Check us out this weekend to see what Staff Training was all about!

See you all this Sunday for SESSION ONE OF SUMMER 2015!
HAIL PENDALOUAN

Need Support? Here They Are! (Part 2)

From the Teen Leaders over in tent village to the Day Camp pavilion, we’ve got Support Staff scattered all over camp!

Let’s introduce the second half of Support Staff!
Meet Katie, Baylee, Seth and Natalie:

Hello campers!
This is Katie, your 2015 Summer Camp Director. When not at camp helping to create fun & exciting games, enjoying spectacular camp fires or choosing to head out on the lake in a canoe I can be found in Fort Wayne, Indiana teaching at a Montessori school.  This past school year, I was working with 23 9-12 year olds and we do everything from crazy science experiments (like dissecting a fish!) to investigating our outdoor environment and identifying the animals and plants that share their home with us.  I can't wait to return to the shores of Big Blue Lake for our summer adventures.

Hey everyone, Baylee here! I'm not sure what you're up to right now, but I just finished my third year at Furman University and I'm gearing up for Summer 2015! I can't wait for my fifth year as a member of the Pendalouan Staff (I'm already packing my trunk and singing camp songs to get ready). This summer will be an adventure as I work with the CITs and LITS, yay leadership! But don't worry, I'll be around camp doing some other things, too! When I'm not in Tent Village, you may also spot me in the Craft Shack, Trading Post, or the Deck of the Lodge, three of my favorite places in camp. So if you aren't prepared for this summer yet, you better start getting ready because this is going to be the best one yet!

Hey folks! My name is Seth, Teen Director at Camp Pendalouan, and this summer will be my fourth  at camp! I'll be working with the CITs and LITs not only to develop leadership skills and character, but have a blast doing it. Camp is no doubt my second home and I love spending my days on Big Blue Lake, making memories that will last a lifetime. I love singing to Mr. Zip Zip, playing capture the flag, making new friends, and being surrounded by such an amazing group of people!  Summer camp can't come soon enough! Hope to see you all soon!!!!!
Humba-Humba-A-Tiki-Tiki-Tumba

Hey! My name is Natalie and I will be your Day Camp Director this summer! Originally from Lansing, I attend Central Michigan University and I am studying Outdoor and Environmental Recreation. In my free time you can find me playing Frisbee, hanging out with my dog, Eddy, swinging in my hammock and going on nature hikes. This is my first year at Camp Pendalouan, but I have grown up at summer camp and have been working at one for the last 6 years. I am super excited for day camp, meeting tons of new people and making memories that will last a lifetime. I cannot wait to meet everyone and spend another awesome summer outdoors.

This summer is going to be unlike any other with new opportunities, new memories and new friends.  Parents, make sure your child is able to have the fun, character-building, unique experience of summer camp.

See you in 9 days!
