Many Hands Make Light Work

My oh my, April 2015 has been one heck of a month.  Can you believe it’s going to be May this week??  We're excited about May because there’s National Teacher Day, Cinco De Mayo, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and IT’S THE MONTH BEFORE SUMMER 2015!

The months leading up to summer are always incredibly busy and full of preparation.  There’s so much to get done, but with the help of the Pendalouan Family and our wonderful community we accomplished more than we thought possible!

Here are some people responsible for making Pendalouan shine:

April 17th:  United Way Youth Day of Caring

A day organized by teens, for teens. About 50 high school kids came to camp to help us prepare for the upcoming busy months.  They did a ton of raking, especially at and near Great Bear, Boyden Chapel and the plateau.  They also spread gravel on the trail coming into the chapel.  They worked so hard and accomplished more than we thought possible!  A HUGE thank you to all of you and to the volunteers from Comerica Bank that helped supervise the projects.

April 19th:  Spring Volunteer Day

A small but mighty group joined us for a day of awesome teamwork!  They raked the piles of leaves around the lodge and moved a boatload of wood.  Thank you SO much to Mamie, Kameron, Andrea, Melody, Hannah, Jackie, Margaret and Chris for all of your help!

We're ready for May!
Hail Pendalouan!

Without Further Ado...IT'S THE SUMMER 2015 STAFF!

In less than 50 days the deck of the lodge will be occupied by none other than THE SUMMER 2015 STAFF!
We’ve gathered a phenomenal group of camp counselors who can’t wait to get started!  Stay tuned because every week we’ll be introducing a handful of our Summer 2015 Staff.
So without further ado…. Introducing Abby, Sean, Megan, Tommy & Erika!

Hello Camp Pendalouan! My name is Abby and I am a junior at Northern Michigan University studying Secondary Education Integrated Science. I am from Rockford, IL and am so excited to begin my first summer at Camp Pendalouan! I have worked at summer camps since I was 16 and am excited to begin my new journey at Camp Pendalouan. I love the outdoors and any activity that comes with it, such as hiking, biking, swimming, and hammocking. I am most excited about meeting all of the campers and be able to share my love of camp with them! I cannot wait to meet you all and to have an amazing summer!

Hi, my name is Sean and I am SO PUMPED to spending my second summer on the shores of Big Blue Lake. I am currently enrolled at Grand Valley State University studying Spanish and German. In my free time you'll probably find me a at quidditch practice, hanging with friends, trying to learn a new language or messing around with paracord patterns. I am so excited to meet new camps and reunite with the old, I especially can’t wait for a little game of Capture The Flag. Until then I'm OTL!

Hi everyone! My name is Megan and this will be my third summer at camp, but my first as a counselor. At home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, you can find me playing tennis year-round, hanging out with friends, taking lots of pictures and reading! I am graduating from Northview High School this year and will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall, hopefully to pursue a career in elementary education. I am looking forward to spending my summer outdoors, making foil dinners, and creating memories with all of you!

Hi my name is Tommy and this is my 7th year at camp, but first year as a counselor. I'm from Palatine, Illinois and I come to Pendalouan every year with my two younger brothers, Aaron and Jacob, and younger sister, Annalise. I absolutely cannot wait to get back to camp this year!  My favorite things to do at camp are Capture the Flag, mountain biking, and taking hikes around Big Blue Lake to the sandbar. When I'm not at camp I am usually playing hockey, golf, or doing something else outside. I am really excited see everyone again as my first year on staff! Hail Pendalouan!

Hi! My name is Erika and I’m from Naperville, Illinois. I’ll be going into my third year of college at Illinois State University where I’m studying Elementary Education. I’m so excited to spend my first summer as a camp counselor, and what better place than Camp Pendalouan! I can’t wait to meet so many new and amazing people. I’ve been counting down the days until I get to spend my summer on the shores of Big Blue! See you all soon!

Three Cheers for Preview Day!

It’s time for Preview Day!
THIS SUNDAY, April 26th
1pm-4pm

Curious about camp?
This Sunday, Pendalouan will be open to those who wish to come and take a look around!  Bring your family for an afternoon of exploring camp and all it has to offer.

This is a great opportunity to check out Pendalouan, ask our staff any questions you might have, and show your friends what you’ve been trying to explain for years!

Along with tours around camp, we will be opening the climbing wall and the archery range!
We look forward to seeing you all this Sunday (1pm-4pm)!

To those who camp out for Volunteer Day last Sunday… THANK YOU!  We appreciate all of the wonderful help in getting camp ready for summer.  Great teamwork!

Hail Pendalouan!

Hold Your Horses, It's Ropers and Wranglers!

Summer 2015 is coming!

Starting this week, we will be sharing and releasing all sorts of great summer camp details!
Let’s kick it off with one of our awesome specialty camps...

Roper and Wranglers (ages 10-15):
Specialty camps allow for participation in regular resident camp activities while emphasizing a particular interest.  The Ropers get matched up with a horse at the beginning of the week. They will learn how to take care of their horse, along with grooming, saddling and riding!  Campers spend half of each day on a horse, in the barn, and on special trail rides.
It's a blast!

Ropes and Wranglers is offered during all available sessions!
