Halloween Camp Recap 2015

A few weeks ago, an awesomely energetic group of campers joined us for 24 hours of Halloween fun.  Nothing could damper their spirits, not even the rain!

Here’s what happens when you mix kids, costumes, candy and camp:

Friday evening began with campers moving into their cabins, meeting their counselors and getting back into the camp groove with some sandlot games.  A spoOoOoky dinner was served, the sun set and the Halloween festivities began!
The scare-venger hunt sent each cabin on a mission to collect the spoOoOoky clues hidden all around camp, ending with a Pendalouan camp fire where each cabin performed their own unique skit!

Saturday was jam packed.  Campers were able to choose between activities such as archery, the climbing wall, Halloween crafts, a Sleepy Hollow hike and more.  Before lunch, camp regrouped for some awesome all camp games on the sports field.  We spent the second half of the day with costumes, candy, a carnival full of games and more candy.  The cold and rain couldn't stop the festive fun, there’s no better way to spend Halloween weekend!

Thank you to all who could make it!  If you didn’t get the chance to come this year, mark your calendars for 2016!

Hail Pendalouan!

A Perfect Saturday: Pendalouan Day 2015 Recap

Pendalouan Day 2015 was a day to remember, here’s what happened:

Last weekend, 125 alumni, family and friends came out to camp to celebrate over 90 years of making an impact!  There was an incredible mix of past and present staff members, campers and even some multi generational Pendy families.  Two former campers, one from ’45 and one from ’49, were in attendance, giving each generation since the 1940’s representation.

There were memory displays with old camper handbooks, photos, newspaper articles, staff manuals, camp newsletter and other mementos to examine and bring back old memories. There were crafts on the deck of the lodge, canoes out on Big Blue, arrows in targets, smiles on faces and a beautiful display of Pendalouan sweatshirts.

Eddie Boersema’s lifetime of service to Pendalouan was honored at the EBEAC (Eddie Boersema Education and Activity Center) dedication ceremony, click here to learn about the project.

Thank you’s:
To John and Kathy Workman who had an incredible impact on the EBEAC, we can’t thank you enough! There are many donors that contributed to this effort, community organizations, foundations and individual donors all helped make this building possible.

There might be no better way to spend a day than swapping camp stories with fellow Pendalouan alumni and friends.  Thanks to everyone who made it out to Pendalouan Day!

Another exciting weekend is happening at camp on the 30th, it's Halloween Camp!  A crazy 24 hour camp full of games, costumes and fun!  (There may be candy involved..)

Hail Pendalouan

In Case You Haven't Heard...

We've got big news!

Thanks to the generosity of Bill & Muriel TuggleKerry & Mike Stewart, the Muskegon Y’s ClubCarl & Debra Annessa and the Strategic Initiatives Fund at YMCA of the USA, our three Beach Cabins, Seneca, Hopi and Ottawa are being removed and replaced. The new cabins will look similar to the Apache Cabin, which was renovated in 2009 with the support of the Crandall Family.
With double the beds in each new cabin, we have the opportunity to give more kids the summer camp experience.

More campers = More friends, more laughs, more smiles and more more fun.

Outside of camp, a bench is just a place to sit.  Here, it’s the seat where two two people became best friends, or where someone ate a foil dinner for the very first time.  Every piece of camp has a thousand different memories attached, and soon we’ll have three new buildings ready for thousands of future memories.
For a sneak peak of Seneca, Hopi and Ottawa come on down Saturday, October 10th for Pendalouan Day!  Free food, an afternoon on Big Blue, activities and the special dedication of the Eddie Boersema Educational Activity Center.  What a perfect day!  Click here to RSVP, the more the merrier!

On that note, Hail Pendalouan!

Summer 2015: The Final Recap

September has arrived, which means another new school year is upon us!  As we all adjust to a new season, a new school or a new haircut, let’s take a final look back at the memories made and adventures had this past summer.

The summer 2015 highlights:
-In between camp sessions we had a variety of groups join us for the weekend.  Everything from weddings to Family Camp & Father Son Camp, we couldn’t have asked for a better turn out.
-We had precisely 838 overnight campers come to Pendalouan this summer, surpassing our previous record of 783 from last summer!
-Rain or shine, we had an unbelievable amount of campers waking up at 7a.m each morning for polar bear swim!
-Our Pendy camp counselors believe in what they do.  Together, they contributed $1,656.42 of their own money to our Campership Fund!
-It was a summer of dancing in the rain!

The number one highlight of each summer spent on Big Blue Lake?
Friendships created, memories made and the freedom to be yourself.

Want to see more photos?  Check out our Facebook page and photo album on our website.

In Case Your Camper Fell Asleep on the Car Ride Home: Session 6

Wasn't it just last week that we were introducing the summer staff and getting prepared for the summer ahead?  This summer, like most, flew by.

When it's mid January and the snow is coming down hard, remember how it feels to jump into Big Blue Lake.  Remember the sound of the bell, the taste of a foil dinner and the songs of morning chapel.  Think about the friends you made and the counselors you looked up to.

Here are the highlights of session 6:
-The pirates anchored on the shores of Big Blue, causing mischief all week.
-A very kind group of campers made up our final session.
-Four-way capture the flag was a BLAST!
-We experienced the best weather we've had all summer, better late than never!
-A great week to catch some Bluegill.
-Cabins were bonded, each with their own jokes and memories to hold onto.
-Our Thursday performances were truly fantastic!  Music, synchro, dance & cheer, drama and circus training brought us all to our feet.
-Together, we woke up Mr. Zip Zip and sang to Mr. Moon for the last time this summer.

Because after all, this is goodnight and not goodbye.
Stay tuned for a summer recap.
