Spring Volunteer Work Day Recap!

Great Bear needed a facelift... and our volunteers gave it the attention
it needed.

This past Sunday, a group of about 20 Alumni, Campers, Friends & Staff of Pendalouan got together to work on a few major projects around Pendalouan for our annual Spring Volunteer Work Day! The weather forecast called for rain, but we were lucky to have a clear (and even sunny at times) day. Over the course of the day, our volunteers worked on the following projects:

  • Clearing, raking, and spreading new sand around the Great Bear Fire Circle
  • Assembling 15 new leopold benches
  • Unpacking and organizing the Camp Costume Closet
  • Doing some landscaping and planting bulbs around our new Welcome Pavilion
  • Setting up things in our Hoop House

The event was a huge success! As Bruce Spoelman, Executive Director said while gathering for snacks at the end of the day, "It would have taken several weeks to accomplish all these activities on our own. With your help, we did it all in a day!" Several of these projects were especially timely, because there are very few days in the next several months when there is not a group in camp for Outdoor Education, retreats or summer camp!

A special thanks to all who made it out to help us on these important projects and who made all this work possible! Our 2014 Volunteers: Andrea and Kameron Walter, Courtney Rzepka, Bob Jakubowski Jr., Kaitie Waukonen, Robyn, Tami and Reya Devio, Rob Klein, Matt Mason, Kathy Stratton and Claire Cebelak, Roger Rogoski, Thomas Green, John Usmial, Katie Spoelman, Bruce and Margaret Spoelman, Lori Willson, Mark Olson

We've had so many people asking about volunteering that we have created a list of ways to help out for those interested in volunteering for/at Pendalouan. Click here to see all of the opportunities! There is always work to do! Luckily, Pendalouan is blessed with a great group of individuals and families who care about Pendalouan and support it with their time and energy.

Thanks again to all who volunteered for our work day and all of those individuals and families who volunteer throughout the year! Pendalouan cannot thrive without your help and assistance! If you have any questions about volunteering, feel free to give us a call at camp at (231) 894-4538 or send Mark Olson, Alumni & Development Director, an email at molson@pendalouan.org.
