Happy Labor Day Weekend! Okay, we are a little early. But we can't help but think about the coming holiday as an important seasonal marker - signaling the end of summer and the beginning of Fall.It seems like just yesterday that we were counting down the days until Summer Camp started.
Pendalouan had an amazing Summer. Over 800 overnight and day campers joined in on the fun on Big Blue Lake making friends, building character, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. We had several sessions and specialty camps fill up, which meant more waitlists this summer around Pendalouan than we've had in years!
Throughout the summer, we had warm wishes, visits, and donations from alumni, parents and other members of the Pendalouan community who were too old to come to Summer Camp. We thank everyone for helping us making Summer 2012 one of the best ever!
As the the temperature starts to drop and the leaves begin to change colors, camp transitions to our fall season, another exciting time of year. Fall at Pendalouan means our alumni reunion event - Pendalouan Day (October 6, 2012 - 10am-4pm, save the date and stay tuned for more information!), Halloween Camp, and our Outdoor Education program!
We hope that this Fall, you stay connected with Pendalouan here on the blog, on our facebook page, and in person by stopping by camp for a visit!
And remember... ONLY 289 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER 2013 STARTS!

It's hard to believe that it's only been a week since 74 fathers and sons left Big Blue Lake after spending a weekend of fun camp activities, relaxation and male family bonding!
Father Son Camp is a rich Pendalouan tradition. The first Father Son Camp started in 1936 and for those 75+ years, Pendalouan's Father Son Camp has been providing fathers, sons, and grandfathers the chance to come together for 3 days of laughter, bonding, and good times.
Dads and sons came from the Muskegon area, Ohio, Illinois, and other parts of the mitten to enjoy a weekend on the shores of Beautiful Big Blue Lake.Throughout the weekend, there were opportunities to swim and boat on Big Blue Lake, hike to Sleepy Hollow, shoot at the Archery, Riflery and new Slingshot Range, conquer our climbing wall, high ropes course, and take a ride on our Zipline! Horseback riding, Capture the Flag, Ultimate Frisbee, and campfires also make the weekend a memorable one.
"What a fun weekend. There is a ton of stuff to do over the two day period and you get to build lifelong memories with your son or sons in a beautiful, outdoor environment." -2012 Father Son Participant
The strength of the weekend is seen in some of our attendees. We have a few families who represent three different generations of fathers and sons. It is not uncommon for grandpa and dad to have been coming to Father-Son Camp for more than 30+ years in these families! We are proud to have alumni here at Pendalouan who consider it home and we are happy to have all campers, young and old, returning and new, at camp in our various programs and family camps, such as Father-Son.
That being said - we also had several new father and son families this year at Camp! Many of these new families are the new wave of Pendalouan Father Son campers. It will be fun to see them still attending in 30 or even 40 years!
If you couldn't join us this year, we hope to see you next summer! Next year, Father Son weekend will be July 19-21, 2013. Save the date now!
Father-Son Camp is one of Pendalouan's Family-Oriented Camps. In addition to Father-Son Camp, we also have a Mom & Kids Camp, a Family Camp, and a Women's Adventure Weekend in just a few weeks! For more information on any of these camps, contact the Pendalouan Office at Ycamp@pendalouan.org or (231) 894-4538.

Wow. What a summer it has been here at YMCA Camp Pendalouan. While we had hoped to post on a regular basis throughout the summer, a packed and near-capacity Summer meant we were busy as bees keeping our over 650 campers safe and happy!
We'll do a full recap of Summer 2012 once our Day Camp ends and Father Son Camp is over (the official ending of our summer season), but here are some highlights so far, as well as some of our favorite pictures from Summer 2012!
- Pendalouan Sunglasses and Songbooks were introduced in the Trading Post... and were a HUGE hit!
- The reintroduction of the Camp Song, Hail Pendalouan, and the establishment of the new ritual of raising the Hail Pendalouan flag every morning.
- Session Two was one of the fullest sessions that Pendalouan has ever had!
- The ENTIRE camp made it down to Polar Bear Swim during Session Three.
- Our campers who shared 4th of July with us enjoyed a fireworks celebration with glow sticks, snacks, and music on the beach!
- Waitlists galore! Unfortunately, we were unable to fit some campers into all of our sessions. We had more waitlists than any of us here at Pendalouan could remember. We hate to see campers not get their first choice of sessions or specialty camps. Signing up earlier makes sure your camper doesn't end up on a waitlist!
- A successful Mom and Kids Camp! Canoe Trips, Hikes, a Campfire, Waterfront time, Crafts - and great weather as well! One Mom said, "We enjoyed ourselves so much we are sure to return next year! Thanks for a wonderful weekend!"
Here are just some of the photos taken this summer. For more, check out our Facebook Page and the Photo Album on our Website.
