Outdoor Education Takes Over!

Thank Goodness It's Friday everyone!

It has been a super busy time at camp, Outdoor Education is going great guns! We hosted over 60 people for a trip last week and over 180 this week. They have been enjoying the snow and ice with our toboggan run, cross-country skiis and broom ball. In addition, we are educating kids on how to build fires in survival, how to throw tomahawks in our Native American class and how tough it was to be a settler in pioneer times. Weekend groups have also enjoyed the facilities, outdoor opportunities and awesome camp food.

Exciting Summer Camp news, as of today we have 101 campers registered for Summer 2009!!! Keep those registrations coming our way, and as always you can get all the information you need at www.pendalouan.org

I hope you have a great weekend and had a wonderful January. Onward to February!!!

Staff Introductions & A T-Shirt Contest!

Hi all! I hope this Monday finds you excited for the week ahead! Can you believe it's almost February? Neither can we, believe it or not things are busy as ever getting ready for this upcoming summer. This means that we have been working hard at assembling a great staff that are just as excited for camp as you are! Here on the blog each week we will take time to introduce some of these people to you. You will see familiar faces as well as some new people all of them have one common goal in mind, which is making camp an absolute blast for you!

But before I introduce two of our returning staff members I have some exciting news. This year we are enlisting YOUR HELP, yes that means you! We are holding a contest for people to enter their ideas about the Camp Pendalouan Staff T-Shirt for Summer 2009! So put on your creative thinking caps and send those t-shirt ideas our way. [The easiest way to submit your idea will be to click "post a comment" at the bottom of this blog] Or if this t-shirt design involves a drawing of your idea, send any ideas to the following address:

YMCA Camp Pendalouan

c/o Staff T-Shirt Design

1243 E. Fruitvale Rd.

Montague, MI 49437

Anyone and everyone is allowed to enter; you, your friends, parents, siblings, grandma, anyone who has an idea should send it our way! The winner will recieve a "blog bio" about how they came up with the idea and a little special prize if we see you at camp this summer! We are so excited about this, and cannot WAIT to see all your awesome ideas!

Alright, enough riff-ma-raff let's get to some introductions, the following two awesome people are excited to see you this summer... drum roll please.... [in your laps! ;)]

Hi, I’m Kate! This will be my 4th summer here at Camp Pendalouan, and I couldn’t be more excited. When I’m not at camp, I’m running, listening to music, teaching, or taking pictures. Some of my most favorite things about camp include chocolate chip cookies, meeting new people, everything water, and of course, all the games! I absolutely can’t wait to see old friends and make new ones. This summer will be one to remember!

[editor's note: Kate forgot to say that this will be her 2nd summer as the Waterfront Director and we could not be happier to see her smiling face and big aviator sunglasses everyday!]

Hey Hey Hey Campers! My name is Mark and this will be 11th year at Camp Pendalouan! I was a camper for 7 years, and this will be my 4rd year as a staff member. I am from Oak Park, Illinois which is right outside of Chicago. I go to college in Minnesota, which is all the way on the other side of Lake Michigan! I like Kitchen Staff Parades, Sailing and canoing on Big Blue Lake, hiking to Sleepy Hollow, and Capture the Flag. I live for campfires, smores, and singing to Mr. Moon. And I can't wait for SUMMER 2009!
Mark and Kate... two very familiar faces around good ole' Big Blue, and we hope that we see you too this summer!
Have a great week!
