Session 6: The Highlights

It feels like just last week we were posting the first pictures of summer 2016. This summer flew by, like all summers do.

When it's mid January and the snow is coming down, remember how it feels to jump into Big Blue Lake.  Remember the sound of your favorite camp songs, the taste of foil dinners and the sea of candles at closing campfire.  Think about the friends you've made and the counselors you've looked up to.

Here are the highlights of session 6:
-The theme this week was mystery.  Waldo used a potion to turn everyone into Waldos, leaving the campers to find ALL the Waldos hidden around camp!
-Beanie Baby Warz was a huge hit this week.
-Wanted posters were posted all over camp, looking for suspicious characters such as Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.
-The square dance was wet and wild; dancing in the red section and sprinklers in the sandlot!
-The last of the CIT's completed their 3rd week as cabin counselors.  Great job CIT's!
-Our last closing campfire was our largest of the summer.
-The counselors came together for a last meal of the summer, they sure do clean up nice!

This summer ended with a bang!  We all walked away with incredible memories, new experiences and brighter spirits.
Thanks for a great week, session 6.  See you next summer!
Hail Pendalouan

Session 5: The Highlights

Session 5 was a week we’ll never forget!  Big laughs, new friendships and lasting memories.

Here are the highlights of session 5:
-This week was Space themed!  JFK was kidnapped by aliens, leading campers to collect gold and barter with the aliens to save Mr. President from the black hole.  Mission Accomplished.
-Apache and Navajo boated over to the sandbar during cabin activity time for a game of greasy watermelon.
-The blue and orange crew necks were all the rage in Blackfoot cabin.
-There were 13 Thunderbirds and 1 double Thunderbird!
-Aquatics camp successfully canoed down the White River.
-The Pendy socks have arrived in the trading post!
-Iroquois cabin celebrated Christmas in July, their stockings were hung in Nikana with care.
-Ropers and Wranglers created an obstacle course for their horses.

Tomorrow, our last session of campers will be here!
We’re ready for the best session 6 ever!
Hail Pendalouan

Session 4: The Highlights

Side effects of session 4 may include:
The longing to return to camp even though it’s only been a day.
A new found habit of making the bed.
An understanding of the impact created when we put others before ourselves.
Losing your voice due to enthusiastic cheering (especially the Green team)
Sudden urges to break out into camp songs, particularly before and after meals.
Continuing to rep your color wars team, face paint and all.

Oh, what a week!  Here are the highlights of session 4:
-All four teams gave 110%, but in the end it was Yellow who brought home the trophy- Respect.
-We had the biggest polar bear hall of fame so far this summer!
-The cabin culture this session was off the charts.  We had some extra camp magic with Navajo cabin of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a troop of boyscouts in Chippewa and the Hopi Hopineers with their covered wagon.
-For five campers it was their fifth year at camp.  Congratulations, Thunderbirds!
-The Green team earned the spirit stick; what they lacked in points they made up for in passion.
-The beautiful weather meant that there was never a dull moment at the waterfront.

Of course, in order to get the best highlights and stories, you’ll have to ask your camper.
See you tomorrow, session 5!
Hail Pendalouan

Session 3: The Highlights

After a week of family camp and Fourth of July festivities, we couldn’t wait for more campers to arrive.  Session 3 was a fantastic group of kids!  They came ready to have fun, make new friends and embody the spirit of Pendalouan.

Here are some of our favorite things from session 3:
-It was a bug’s life at Pendalouan and the stink bug was the biggest baddest bug of them all!  The campers worked together to stop the bad bugs from stealing all of camp’s food!  Mission accomplished.
-Our littlest campers, the bugs & bunks, were here this week!
-The weather brought a new element of fun to camp; puddle splashing and rain dancing.
-A fear of heights and feeling homesick were conquered.

And so much more!  Talk with your camper about their week at Pendalouan and hear the stories that only they can tell.

Who's ready for session 4!?
Hail Pendalouan

Session 2: The Highlights

Last Friday, our session 2 campers walked away tired but exhilarated, with experiences they will not soon forget.  Here’s a look at some of our favorite moments from session 2:

-Pendalouan played host to a handful of unexpected guests... Einstein and Davy Crockett to name a few.
-Our CIT’s graduated after 2 weeks of training, we look forward to having them back later this summer for their third week.
-Our Thursday performances were out of this world!
-It was a week full of bright smiles and a sense of community.
-Session 2 was the largest polar bear half of fame so far this summer!
-Camp was able to come together, fix the time machine, and with Einstein’s help, send everyone back home.

We hope everyone had an exciting 4th of July.
See you Sunday, session 4 campers!

Session 1: The Highlights

What an incredible way to kick off summer 2016!  The energy and excitement of standing on the shores of Big Blue Lake was through the roof.
Here are some of our favorite Session 1 memories:

-Ropers and Wranglers practiced all week for their big rodeo show on Friday morning, yeeehaw!
-The smell of the first foil dinners of the season filled the air.
-Wednesday night was the Alice in Wonderland carnival, with special appearances by the white rabbit and even Alice herself!  Campers hung out with tweedle dee and tweedle dum, painted the roses red and had a tea party in the red section with the Mad Hatter.
-Blackfoot and Apache, paddles in hand, conquered the river trip.
-Our CIT’s demonstrated the power of teamwork, and the impact of a smile.
-Not even the chilly mornings could stop our polar bear swimmers!
-New friendships were made, and old friendships were strengthened.

Thank you for a fantastic week, Session 1 campers!

Tomorrow is Session 2, stay tuned for more summer 2016 fun!
Hail Pendalouan!

Need Support? Part 2

Camp wouldn't be the same without this particular group of staff members.  You can find them up at the barn, in tent village and around Nikana Lodge.  Make sure to greet them with a smile, especially the person running around with a camera...
Meet Katie, Audrey, José and Christina!

Hey 2016 Pendalouan campers!
I'm so excited to announce that I will be returning as the Summer Director at Pendalouan for my fourth year. We have so many amazing things in store for you this summer and I cannot wait to greet each and every one of you as you come to spend a week (or more) of fun with us!
When I'm not at camp, you might find me taking classes at Grand Valley State University for my graduate program in School Psychology, running a race or competing in a triathlon, coaching swimming, or teaching a cycling class. I love to stay active and camp is the perfect place for swimming, biking, hiking, kayaking, and exploring! A few other fun facts about me:
1. My favorite dessert happens to be raspberry sorbet with kiwi and strawberries
2. My favorite type of animal is a snow leopard
3. I enjoy curling up with a good book whenever I get the chance!
Can't wait to see you in a few short weeks

Hi everyone, it's Audrey! This will be my 4th summer on staff (whoa), and my 7th summer overall (whoa again). I'm the Teen Director at camp now, so I get to hang out with the CITs and the Session 4 Trailblazers, along with all the other campers of course. I'm currently finishing my second year at Miami University but I'm anxiously counting down the days until I can be back on Big Blue Lake singing songs, playing games, and hanging out with campers. I can't wait to get back to Pendy and already have a lengthy packing list. Hope to see you all there!!

Hey y'all! My name is Jose, I'm from Muskegon, and this will be my 7th summer at Camp Pendalouan! This past April, I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a major in Liberal Studies! Although I've been a camp counselor in the past, this year I will be serving the role of Media Pro, which means I will be taking all camp photos and videos and maybe designing some new Pendy gear ;) Some hobbies of mine include taking photos, watching scary movies, and dancing hip hop, so if you ever wanna dance battle, meet me in the sandlot. I also have a pet rat named Georgia, so that's pretty cool! ;) I'm excited to see you all at camp for an amazing summer! #Pendy2016

Howdy campers! My name is Christina, and that’s my “mane” man Winston in the picture with me.  You’ll be seeing a lot of this duo around this summer - we’re both coming to camp! This is my first year at Pendalouan, and my first experience being the assistant equestrian director, and this is Winston’s first time going to camp!  We’re from right here in Muskegon, where I am the local math superhero (Wonder Wilson) at Beach Elementary School in Fruitport, and Winston is my sidekick and head of his Halflinger herd at De Boerderij (my family’s farm - pronounced Deh Bore-duh-rye).  In addition to spending a lot of time with Winston, I enjoy reading, doing crafts, and gardening.  In addition to spending a lot of time eating, Winston enjoys more eating...apples, carrots, peppermints, pretty much anything edible.  I am really excited to spend all summer at camp hanging out at the barn and bringing out a little bit of the rodeo in everyone, and Winston is looking forward to searching your pockets for any hidden morsels!  We can’t wait!

The 2016 summer staff will be here THIS Sunday for a week of Staff Orientation!  Keep an eye on our Facebook & Instagram pages for all the details.

Hail Pendalouan!
