Halloween Camp Recap

Last weekend was a busy one at Camp Pendalouan, over 80 campers joined us for some good old fashion Halloween fun!  The sun was out and the smiles were big.  There was archery, high ropes, crafts, field games and for the first time in many years, Mother Nature provided us with the perfect canoeing conditions. Saturday, after a spirited game of capture the broomstick, there was trick or treating, a Halloween carnival and lots of candy.

Here are some photos from Halloween Camp 2016:

A Beautiful Day on Big Blue Lake: Pendalouan Day 2016

Last Saturday, 78 alumni and friends came out to camp to celebrate over 90 years of making an impact of people’s lives!

There was a variety of Pendalouan people in attendance:  Summer staff alumni, summer camper alumni, camper families, current summer staff, donors, community members, and members of the Y’s club.  This tradition is an incredibly unique opportunity to bring together a group of people with different Pendalouan memories and experiences, to celebrate something they all have in common… a love for camp!

There was archery, boating, candle-making and canoeing. The camp tour, lead by Bruce Spoelman, highlighted the Eddie Boersema Education and Activity Center, a new boardwalk connecting Wildwood Chapel to the Lodge, an upgraded camp entrance road and a new paved path in front of the three new cabins, making two of the three ADA accessible.

After lunch was the dedication ceremony for the three new beach cabins. Representatives from the Y’s club, as well as Bill and Muriel Tuggle were there to cut the ribbons on the cabins they helped support.  The Stewart’s were unable to attend, but our oldest alumni Bill Paulson (a camper in the 30’s and staff member in the 40’s) was there to cut the ribbon for the third cabin.

Thank you to the Pendalouan Family and to everyone who came out last Saturday, Pendalouan Day 2016 was truly amazing.

Hail Pendalouan!

Session 6: The Highlights

It feels like just last week we were posting the first pictures of summer 2016. This summer flew by, like all summers do.

When it's mid January and the snow is coming down, remember how it feels to jump into Big Blue Lake.  Remember the sound of your favorite camp songs, the taste of foil dinners and the sea of candles at closing campfire.  Think about the friends you've made and the counselors you've looked up to.

Here are the highlights of session 6:
-The theme this week was mystery.  Waldo used a potion to turn everyone into Waldos, leaving the campers to find ALL the Waldos hidden around camp!
-Beanie Baby Warz was a huge hit this week.
-Wanted posters were posted all over camp, looking for suspicious characters such as Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.
-The square dance was wet and wild; dancing in the red section and sprinklers in the sandlot!
-The last of the CIT's completed their 3rd week as cabin counselors.  Great job CIT's!
-Our last closing campfire was our largest of the summer.
-The counselors came together for a last meal of the summer, they sure do clean up nice!

This summer ended with a bang!  We all walked away with incredible memories, new experiences and brighter spirits.
Thanks for a great week, session 6.  See you next summer!
Hail Pendalouan

Session 5: The Highlights

Session 5 was a week we’ll never forget!  Big laughs, new friendships and lasting memories.

Here are the highlights of session 5:
-This week was Space themed!  JFK was kidnapped by aliens, leading campers to collect gold and barter with the aliens to save Mr. President from the black hole.  Mission Accomplished.
-Apache and Navajo boated over to the sandbar during cabin activity time for a game of greasy watermelon.
-The blue and orange crew necks were all the rage in Blackfoot cabin.
-There were 13 Thunderbirds and 1 double Thunderbird!
-Aquatics camp successfully canoed down the White River.
-The Pendy socks have arrived in the trading post!
-Iroquois cabin celebrated Christmas in July, their stockings were hung in Nikana with care.
-Ropers and Wranglers created an obstacle course for their horses.

Tomorrow, our last session of campers will be here!
We’re ready for the best session 6 ever!
Hail Pendalouan

Session 4: The Highlights

Side effects of session 4 may include:
The longing to return to camp even though it’s only been a day.
A new found habit of making the bed.
An understanding of the impact created when we put others before ourselves.
Losing your voice due to enthusiastic cheering (especially the Green team)
Sudden urges to break out into camp songs, particularly before and after meals.
Continuing to rep your color wars team, face paint and all.

Oh, what a week!  Here are the highlights of session 4:
-All four teams gave 110%, but in the end it was Yellow who brought home the trophy- Respect.
-We had the biggest polar bear hall of fame so far this summer!
-The cabin culture this session was off the charts.  We had some extra camp magic with Navajo cabin of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a troop of boyscouts in Chippewa and the Hopi Hopineers with their covered wagon.
-For five campers it was their fifth year at camp.  Congratulations, Thunderbirds!
-The Green team earned the spirit stick; what they lacked in points they made up for in passion.
-The beautiful weather meant that there was never a dull moment at the waterfront.

Of course, in order to get the best highlights and stories, you’ll have to ask your camper.
See you tomorrow, session 5!
Hail Pendalouan
